Joo Wan has more than 30 years of experience in corporate recovery, restructuring, insolvency, investigations and litigation support across Singapore and international markets. With experience spanning Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Joo Wan began his career with Arthur Andersen in Singapore’s Global Corporate Finance Division and was subsequently promoted to Associate Director. In 2002, he joined RSM Nelson Wheeler Tan Pte Ltd as a Principal before later serving as a Principal at Alvarez & Marsal. In 2006, he joined Tay Swee Sze Advisors Pte Ltd as Managing Director. Prior to re-joining Alternative Advisors which he established in 2008, Joo Wan served as a Partner at KPMG LLP. 

To further enhance the regional and global reach, Alternative Advisors decided to join the Rodgers Reidy network, a member firm of BTG Global Advisory.  In 2026, Alternative Advisors established Rodgers Reidy Advisory Pte Ltd, where Joo Wan currently serves as Founder and Managing Director.

Joo Wan’s practice includes complex restructurings, cross-border insolvency matters, distressed asset recovery, forensic investigations and litigation support across industries including oil and gas, shipping, construction, automotive, electronics distribution, telecommunications and financial services.

Highlights of Joo Wan’s experience include:

  • Bank Collapse Asset Recovery | Supervised recovery actions against the auditors of a futures trading company whose collapse triggered a UK bank failure, involving losses in excess of S$2 billion.
  • US Litigation Support | Assisted a Singapore-listed company in US litigation against a multinational corporation to recover more than US$200 million in trade debts and inventories.
  • Debt Restructuring in Singapore | Led the restructuring of debts for a prefabrication company (S$100 million in liabilities) and a gold manufacturer (S$40 million in liabilities).
  • Construction Sector Judicial Management | Successfully restructured S$69 million in debts for a construction entity, successfully implementing a scheme of arrangement that culminated in a reverse takeover (RTO).
  • Liquidation of U.S. Sanctioned Entity | Appointed by the Court as Provisional Liquidator and subsequently Liquidator of a Venezuelan–Chinese shipping joint venture impacted by U.S. sanctions. Achieved asset realisations of approximately S$87 million during the provisional liquidation and successfully obtained OFAC licence approval for the release of funds blocked under U.S. sanctions regulations.
  • Forensic Investigations | Conducted forensic accounting investigations supporting litigation against auditors for negligence in relation to fund misappropriation, with matters escalated to prosecution by Singapore’s Commercial Affairs Department.
  • Insolvent-to-Solvent Liquidation | Converted a grossly insolvent liquidation into a solvent liquidation through strategic settlements and restructuring arrangements involving approximately RMB 15 million in liabilities.
  • Business Valuation & Shareholder Disputes | Acted as valuer and advisor in high-value shareholder disputes, involving the valuation of assets in excess of S$250 million.
  • Receiverships | Managed receiverships in Malaysia and Singapore, achieving full recovery for secured lenders and successful realisation of assets.
  • Cryptocurrency Risk Modelling | Built financial models for a cryptocurrency trading firm managing > S$200 million in digital assets.
  • Corporate Governance | Served as Independent Director on the boards of several companies listed on the Singapore Exchange Limited.
